The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has firmly denied claims made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the alleged defection plans of its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Responding to comments by APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who declared the NNPP “dead” and hinted that Kwankwaso wanted to return to APC, NNPP’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, dismissed the statement as baseless and politically motivated.
“Let it be clear—Senator Kwankwaso has not shown any interest in rejoining the APC,” Johnson emphasized during a chat with The NIGPOST. “He remains committed to rebuilding the NNPP and is actively engaging with Nigerians to reposition the party for the 2027 elections.”
He further accused Ganduje of being intimidated by Kwankwaso’s political relevance. “Ganduje is in panic mode. He knows Kwankwaso brings unmatched value to the political arena,” he said.
Ganduje had earlier made his controversial remarks while addressing the Tinubu Support Group at the APC headquarters in Abuja, boldly stating that the NNPP was “already in a coffin” and that “Kwankwaso wants to come back.”
But NNPP officials across the country aren’t taking those words lightly. In Osun State, NNPP Chairman Dr. Tosin Odeyemi fired back, saying, “The APC has no right to mock other parties when it has plunged Nigerians into economic hardship.”
He also criticized Ganduje for ignoring the APC’s failures, stating, “Kwankwaso is far too visionary to associate with a party that’s caused so much suffering.”
Meanwhile, the APC’s Kano chapter also weighed in, labeling Kwankwaso a “political liability.” APC’s spokesperson in the state, Ahmed Aruwa, claimed that Kwankwaso’s interest in APC was merely to secure a platform for a 2031 presidential bid.
“Kwankwaso has a pattern—he left PDP in crisis and is now doing the same to NNPP. We don’t want him back,” Aruwa stated. He further suggested that any possible return would need to start with reconciling with Ganduje.
With tensions rising and both sides standing their ground, it’s clear that the political drama surrounding Kwankwaso’s future is far from over.
