NLC Warns FG Against Electricity Tariff Hike, Threatens Mass Protest

NLC Opposes Electricity Tariff Hike, Threatens Nationwide Protest

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly warned the Federal Government against any attempt to increase electricity tariffs, threatening mass resistance if the hike goes through.

In a statement issued after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the NLC accused the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) of using a deceptive reclassification process to push consumers into the higher Band A tariff under the pretense of improved services.

Additionally, the union reiterated its demand for a 35% tariff adjustment for telecom services, warning that it would shut down telecommunications companies that fail to comply with the agreed rate.

The NLC insists that Nigerians are already burdened by high costs and should not be subjected to further economic hardship through unjustified electricity and telecom tariff increases.

The labor union has mobilized its members for a nationwide protest on February 4, calling on citizens to resist policies that worsen their financial struggles.

Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
