NIMC Warns Nigerians Against Unauthorized NIN Modifications

Commission Urges Public to Use Only Official Platforms

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a strong warning against modifying National Identification Number (NIN) data on unauthorized websites, cautioning that such actions could lead to identity theft and data breaches.

In a statement released on Monday, March 10, 2025, the Commission directed all enrolled individuals looking to update their NIN details to do so only through the official NIMC self-service portal: Selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

Protecting Personal Data from Cyber Threats

NIMC emphasized that unauthorized third-party websites pose serious risks, including:

Compromised personal data

Exposure to cyber fraud

Unauthorized access to sensitive information

“Modifications can only be done on the official NIMC self-service portal to ensure the security and integrity of your National Identification Number (NIN) data,” the statement read.

The Commission urged the public to avoid using any platform other than its official channels to safeguard their personal information.

Secure and Convenient Modifications

NIMC reassured Nigerians that its self-service portal provides a safe, reliable, and accessible way to update their NIN details remotely at any time.

This move aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance digital security and combat identity-related crimes in Nigeria.
