A letter addressed to the Chief of Army Staff has emerged, accusing senior Nigerian Army officers, including Major General G.S. Mohammed and Corporal A. Abubakar, of grave misconduct and abuse. The allegations, presented by the legal firm Tom Uja & Co., call for the immediate dismissal of the officers involved and a compensation payment of ₦150 million to the victims.
The petition identifies the victims as Master Vershima Mker and Miss Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, who were allegedly assaulted while preparing for their wedding. According to the document, the incident took place in Gwarinpa, Abuja, where the couple had stopped their vehicle to allow the military convoy led by Major General Mohammed to pass. It is claimed that the couple was subsequently attacked by the Major General and his entourage.
The letter details that the victims endured physical abuse, leaving Mr. Mker with severe injuries requiring specialized medical care and Miss Iorvihi with a fractured finger. It further alleges that the couple was unlawfully detained at the Gwarinpa Police Station for eight hours and coerced into writing an apology to the Major General before being released.
Tom Uja & Co. asserts that the incident represents a blatant violation of the victims’ constitutional rights and has inflicted significant physical and psychological trauma. The firm warns that if the demands are not met by November 18, 2024, they will release video evidence of the incident and initiate legal proceedings against the Nigerian Army.
