Peter Obi Raises Alarm: “Nigeria Is Collapsing”
At the Labour Party’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, didn’t hold back his concerns. In a passionate speech on Wednesday, he declared that Nigeria is dangerously close to total collapse.
“Nigeria is collapsing,” Obi said. “The numbers don’t lie. Every day, more Nigerians are slipping deeper into poverty.”
Obi stressed the importance of speaking up when the system is clearly failing, saying, “We must not be afraid. Those who feared yesterday achieved nothing. Now, it’s time to act boldly.”
Call for Unity and a Stronger Labour Party
He emphasized that the Labour Party must remain a united front, built on fairness and inclusion. “This is a family, not just Peter Obi’s project,” he said. “Everyone’s voice matters. We’re building something bigger than one individual.”
Looking ahead to upcoming elections, Obi underlined the need for preparedness and stronger candidates across all levels—from local government to the presidency.
“We are not just participating. We’re preparing to offer Nigerians the best and most competent candidates,” he added.

He also sent a strong message to those eyeing the party’s ticket in the future: only those who are truly committed and competent will be welcomed. “We must learn from our past mistakes. No more political tourists.
We want people who are loyal to the cause and have what it takes to lead,” Obi insisted.
