In a bid to tackle rising security challenges, the Nigerian government has spent an additional N14 billion on military equipment between September and October 2024.
This follows an earlier N63.6 billion spent earlier this year to enhance the nation’s defense capabilities.
The latest funds were used to acquire essential items like ammunition, armored vehicles, and surveillance systems for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Notably, N4 billion was allocated for combat equipment in September, and in October, the Nigerian Air Force spent N6.4 billion on defense gear. This is part of a larger effort to strengthen the military’s ability to protect the country.
Since 2020, the government has invested over N231 billion on arms and ammunition, with more than half of that amount going towards importing military hardware, which has been costly due to the dependence on foreign manufacturers.
