Rumors spread rapidly over the weekend suggesting a major shakeup in Niger State’s leadership, but officials have firmly set the record straight.
Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba Remains in Office
Contrary to circulating rumors on social media, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has not resigned from his position. His Chief Press Secretary, Ummikhultume Abdullahi, confirmed in an exclusive phone conversation with NIGPOST that Garba remains firmly in office and actively carries out his duties.
Speaking from the Deputy Governor’s residence near the Government House in Minna, Abdullahi emphasized, “I am currently at his official residence. He is upstairs while I am downstairs. I can categorically state that Comrade Yakubu Garba is still the Deputy Governor of Niger State. There is no truth to the resignation claims.”
Officials Urge Public to Disregard False Reports
The clarification comes amid escalating speculation that Garba had stepped down, a narrative that created waves of political anxiety throughout the state. Officials from the Deputy Governor’s office have urged the public to dismiss the misinformation, stressing that such unfounded reports only serve to stir unnecessary tension.

As rumors continue to spread unchecked on social media, government authorities call on citizens to verify information through credible channels before sharing. They caution that the spread of false news can destabilize public trust and worsen political uncertainties.
