The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of violence in parts of Plateau State, which has sadly resulted in several deaths and injuries.
In a statement signed by its chairman and Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the NGF sympathized with Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the people of Plateau, and the families affected by the tragic events.
Describing the incident as “heartbreaking and untimely,” the forum noted that Plateau had recently enjoyed a period of relative peace, thanks to collaborative efforts by government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
“This violence is a setback,” the NGF stated. “We urge religious and community leaders to support Governor Mutfwang in calming tensions, fostering reconciliation, and rebuilding lasting peace in the state.”
The forum also reminded Nigerians that every life lost is more than a statistic. “These victims were parents, providers, and sources of hope to their families. We call for an end to all forms of violence against fellow human beings,” the statement added.
The governors offered prayers for the souls of the departed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. They also encouraged all parties to embrace peace and dialogue as the only sustainable path forward.
