The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently intercepted a shipment of synthetic cannabis, known as Loud, concealed inside duvets and prepared for export to the United Kingdom.
The bust occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, leading to the arrest of two individuals, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, six parcels of the substance, weighing 3.50 kilograms, were found. Balogun, the operation’s mastermind, confessed to receiving ₦700,000 for the shipment, much of which he spent on rent and logistical expenses.
Additional Raids Across Nigeria
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided a hideout in Ikorodu, seizing seven liters of “skuchies” (a psychoactive mix of black currant, cannabis, and opioids) and various weapons, including rifles and pistols.
Another operation in Mushin resulted in the confiscation of 47kg of skunk and 25.46kg of nitrous oxide.
In Ekiti State, 26-year-old Adepoju Taiwo was arrested with 1.95kg of Canadian Loud, while in Kwara State, Auwal Sani was caught with 50,000 tramadol pills weighing 36.56kg.
Similarly, a cannabis plantation was destroyed in Kano, with arrests made for cultivating psychoactive substances.
Advocacy and Awareness
The NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, educating schools and communities nationwide.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the agency’s efforts, urging citizens to join the fight against drug abuse.
