National Flag Carrier: Adeniji calls it a flawed solution to Nigeria’s airline crisis.

Adeniji Criticizes National Flag Carrier as Solution to Nigeria’s Aviation Woes

By NIGPOST Team

Babatunde Adeniji, Executive Director of General Sales and Solution Management (GSSM), has dismissed the idea that a national flag carrier is the answer to the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s airline industry.

In a recent interview, the aviation expert argued that the real problem lies in the structure of the aviation sector and called for a comprehensive industry overhaul.

Adeniji criticized the notion that a national airline would solve systemic issues, emphasizing that the airline industry’s challenges are tied to broader inefficiencies across the aviation value chain.

From manufacturers and regulators to handling companies and airport managers, he highlighted how the airlines remain the weakest link, often absorbing the highest risks with the lowest returns.

The aviation consultant also pointed out the fragile financial health of Nigerian airlines, worsened by poor corporate governance and an uncoordinated industry structure.

He questioned the feasibility of reviving a government-managed national airline, drawing comparisons to the failure of Nigeria Airways in the past.

Adeniji noted that even globally, many national carriers struggle to remain profitable.

According to Adeniji, the solution lies in restructuring the entire aviation ecosystem to create a more collaborative, efficient, and cost-effective framework.

He called for better infrastructure, supportive policies, and stronger governance to enhance the profitability and sustainability of Nigerian airlines.
