Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has fired back at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to dismiss a petition Akpabio filed against her.
The Senate President had accused Natasha of criminal defamation and incitement after she allegedly claimed he was behind a plot to assassinate her. Akpabio described the claims as “heinous lies” and an attempt to damage his image and provoke unrest.
But Natasha isn’t backing down.
In a statement issued by her lawyer, Victor Giwa, on Saturday, she described Akpabio’s petition as a calculated distraction, aimed at derailing the investigation into his alleged threats against her life.
According to Giwa, “Our client maintains that instead of throwing out accusations of public incitement, the Senate President should first subject himself to a full security investigation concerning the threats against her.”
Natasha also alleged that Akpabio was behind the withdrawal of her security detail, a move she claims put her life at risk.
Her legal team argued that until the allegations against Akpabio are fully investigated and proven false, his petition should not even be considered.
“It is only after a thorough investigation absolves him of wrongdoing that any claim of defamation or incitement against Senator Natasha can be addressed,” Giwa said.
She has now called on the IGP to treat Akpabio’s petition as a diversion and discontinue it, emphasizing that justice must not be derailed by political influence or intimidation.
