The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has unveiled its 2025 budget proposal, highlighting key allocations that have sparked public interest. A substantial N85 million has been earmarked for publicity and advertisements, while a staggering N459 million is set aside for office furniture and fittings.

The total proposed expenditure, which awaits the National Assembly’s approval, stands at N7.04 billion. Personnel costs dominate the budget with a hefty allocation of N4.16 billion, broken down into N2.7 billion for salaries and wages and N1.45 billion for allowances and social contributions.

Breakdown of Additional Allocations

1. Welfare Packages: NAPTIP plans to spend N70 million on welfare programs for staff.

2. Vehicle Maintenance: N35.6 million has been reserved for the upkeep of motor vehicles and transportation equipment.

3. Catering and Food Supplies: The agency has budgeted N82.9 million for foodstuff and catering supplies.

4. Office Stationery and Consumables: An additional N32.4 million will go toward purchasing office stationery and computer consumables.

Public Concerns and Reactions

While these allocations may reflect operational necessities, they have raised questions about prioritization in an economy grappling with rising inflation and public sector funding challenges. Critics argue that the N85 million publicity budget could be optimized, while the N459 million allocated for office furniture seems excessive.
