Napoli Rejects €65m Bid from Galatasaray for Victor Osimhen: What’s Next for the Nigerian Striker?

Napoli has rejected a €65m bid from Turkish giants Galatasaray for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports from Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport.

The bid fell short of Osimhen’s €75m release clause, with the Turkish club seeking to make his loan move permanent.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan until the end of the season without a buy option, is at the center of an intriguing transfer situation.

A special clause in the agreement grants Galatasaray a unique advantage: If Osimhen transfers to another club in January, the Turkish side is entitled to a €6m compensation fee.

This effectively raises his release clause to €81m for other clubs, while Galatasaray remains eligible to acquire him for €75m during the winter window.

A Closer Look at Osimhen’s Future

Osimhen’s release clause had initially been set at €130m but was reduced after he signed a new deal with Napoli last summer before his loan move to Galatasaray.

The Nigerian international has been in scintillating form in Turkey, scoring 16 goals and providing 5 assists in just 20 appearances, further elevating his value.

Osimhen had already made it clear in December that he intends to see out his loan spell at Galatasaray, stating, “I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season.”

However, he left the door open for future discussions, saying, “If they come to me, we will talk.”

Osimhen’s stock has risen significantly after his stellar 2022/23 season with Napoli, where he scored 26 goals, won the Serie A Golden Boot, and helped the team claim their first league title in over 30 years.
