NAFDAC Arrests Man in Port Harcourt for Producing Fake Alcohol in Unhygienic Conditions


The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has apprehended a man, Anthony Chidi, for illegally producing and selling counterfeit alcoholic beverages under highly unhygienic conditions at Mile 3 Market, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Fake Alcohol Factory Uncovered

NAFDAC officials raided Chidi’s shop following intelligence reports and discovered shocking evidence of fake alcohol production.

Inside the filthy workspace, they found:

  • Used bottles of popular alcoholic brands being washed and refilled with unwholesome mixtures
  • Ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials used to disguise the counterfeit drinks
  • Extremely poor sanitary conditions, raising serious health concerns

Chidi Confesses to the Crime

During questioning, Chidi admitted that he had been running this illicit business for about a year.

He disclosed that he sourced labels from Aba and purchased used bottles to package and sell the fake drinks.

In response, NAFDAC sealed off the illegal facility and seized all items used in the operation.

The agency has also urged the public to be extra cautious when purchasing alcoholic beverages and to report any suspicious products or vendors.
