Nigerian Muslims have joined their counterparts worldwide to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, officially declared the end of Ramadan last night.
He announced that today, March 30, 2025, corresponds to the 1st day of Shawwal 1446AH and is designated as Eid-el-Fitr.
Moon Sighting Confirms Eid-el-Fitr
The decision was based on reports from National Moon Sighting Committees across the country, confirming the sighting of the new moon in various locations.
Similarly, Saudi Arabia also confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, signaling the end of Ramadan.
The Sultan extended warm wishes to the Nigerian Muslim community, praying for Allah’s guidance and blessings.
He urged Muslims to continue praying for peace, progress, and national development while supporting the country’s leadership with prayers.
Security Measures Strengthened Nationwide
Ahead of the celebrations, security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps (NSCDC), and other law enforcement bodies, have heightened security measures nationwide. This is to ensure a safe and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
In Kaduna State, the police command has deployed officers to maintain law and order. Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed officers to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering to prevent security threats during the festivities.

Similarly, Kano State’s NSCDC has deployed 3,256 personnel across strategic locations, including Eid prayer grounds, markets, and event centers, to safeguard lives and property.

Nationwide Travel Surge as Muslims Return Home
As Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with family and loved ones, major motor parks across the country witnessed an influx of travelers heading home for the festivities.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed officers to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce road accidents during the holiday period.
Bauchi, Other States Reaffirm Commitment to Peaceful Festivities
Bauchi State’s Police Command has also reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security during Eid-el-Fitr.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured residents of robust security measures throughout the celebrations. The command urged the public to use the Police Rescue Me App or call emergency numbers 08151849417, 09053872273 when necessary.
