Chaos erupted in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Friday as a mob set two revenue agents ablaze for allegedly causing the death of an innocent bystander.

The incident occurred at Old Market Road along Venn Road by Egerton.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tragedy began when a group of revenue agents pursued a tipper driver, demanding payment.

In their attempt to seize control of the vehicle’s steering, the driver lost control and fatally struck a pedestrian.

A viral video shows the mob attacking two of the agents before setting them on fire, while four others reportedly escaped.

One witness said, “The revenue collectors were dragging the steering with the driver, causing him to lose control and ram into a passerby.

The angry crowd captured two of them, while others fled.”

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, with some criticizing the conduct of revenue agents in the state.

“This is one death too many.

These government revenue touts have caused more harm than good,” a local trader said.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident.
