Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo and President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has responded to the widespread mockery he received after mispronouncing “kudos” as “kundusi.”
In a video that has now gone viral, MC Oluomo addressed union delegates and critics, boldly stating that while he might not be fluent in English due to a lack of formal education, he has successfully raised highly educated children who are citizens of both the United States and the United Kingdom.
“If you and my children were to compete in expressing yourselves, I’m confident you wouldn’t outperform them,” he said. “I invested in my children’s education and they are doing well abroad.”
The gaffe happened while he was applauding the efforts of NURTW members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), but instead of saying “kudos,” he said “kundusi,” triggering jokes and memes on social media.
MC Oluomo, however, downplayed the criticism. “I didn’t go to school. I joined the transport sector and rose from a bus conductor to national president. That’s hard work,” he stated. “Yes, I said ‘kundusi’. So what? Even my son is named Qudus. Those mocking me, what have you done with your education?”
He further emphasized his grassroots journey, recounting his climb through the ranks within NURTW—from conductor to national president—and expressed pride in his accomplishments.
His children have also shown strong support for him online. In 2022, one of his sons, known as King West on Instagram, defended his father fiercely after trolls labeled him a tout. “If MC Oluomo were your father, you wouldn’t lack love or care. Appreciate good fathers,” he wrote.
