Lagos Police Free 27 Foreigners Lured into Nigeria with Fake Job Offers
The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued 27 foreign nationals who fell victim to a deceptive job scam, raising concerns about a possible human trafficking syndicate.
According to police reports, the victims—18 men and 9 women from Ghana and the Benin Republic—were held captive in the Isheri Oshun area of Lagos.
How the Victims Were Rescued
Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that a distress call from one of the victims prompted the rescue operation. Officers from the Conflict Response Unit stormed the location and freed the captives.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were meant to be transported elsewhere, possibly for illegal activities.
We have launched an extensive probe to track down the traffickers and dismantle their network,” Hundeyin stated.
More Police Rescues Across Lagos
The rescue of the 27 foreigners was just one of several recent breakthroughs by the Lagos Police Command:
✅ Pakistani Kidnapping Case: Two Pakistani nationals—Umarangol (19) and Aftab Hamad (28)—were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a fellow Pakistani under the guise of offering him a chef job.
The victim was held in a hotel in Ikeja, and the kidnappers demanded a ₦50 million ransom. Quick police intervention led to his rescue and the arrest of two out of seven suspects.
The case is now being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
✅ Land Inspection Turned Kidnapping: Three individuals who went to inspect land near Lekki’s new airport were kidnapped by five armed men on March 7.
However, police pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon their victims within 24 hours. A manhunt is now underway to track the culprits.
✅ Delivery Agent Abducted and Extorted: In another shocking case, a female delivery agent was kidnapped on March 9 after being tricked into a fake delivery address.
The suspects, Emmanuel and Mazioma Okafor, allegedly stripped her and took explicit photos, demanding ₦2 million to prevent them from being leaked.
Ongoing Investigations and Warnings
The Lagos Police have intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in kidnapping and human trafficking.
Authorities urge residents to be cautious of suspicious job offers and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
This latest operation highlights the growing challenges of human trafficking and kidnapping in Nigeria, but it also shows that law enforcement is stepping up efforts to keep Lagos safe.
