Lagos Police Deny Arrest of Boko Haram Suspects, Urge Public to Ignore False Reports

The Lagos State Police Command has debunked claims circulating in some newspapers that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 18, 2025, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made it clear that the reports published on April 17 were completely false. According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately ordered a full investigation to verify the claims.

“The findings of our investigation revealed that no members of Boko Haram were seen, sighted, or apprehended anywhere in Lagos State,” Hundeyin said.

He added that the areas mentioned in the report, particularly trailer park communities, were thoroughly checked by police operatives, including surveillance detectives and officers from the State Intelligence Department. The local leaders, drivers, and operators in those communities also confirmed that no such arrests took place.

“No individual or group confirmed the presence or arrest of Boko Haram members across Lagos State as alleged in the media,” he stressed.

Describing the reports as “false, malicious, and intended to create fear,” Hundeyin called on Lagosians to disregard the story entirely. He warned the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

“The Commissioner of Police encourages all residents to go about their daily activities without fear or anxiety,” he added.

Hundeyin also cautioned the media against being tools for spreading falsehoods that could disrupt public peace, urging journalists to verify facts before publication.

He concluded by assuring Lagos residents of their safety, emphasizing the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He further encouraged anyone who notices suspicious activity to promptly report to the nearest police station or contact the police control room on 08063299264.
