Lagos Govt: Adiyan II Water Treatment Plant to Serve 24 Million Residents by 2027

The Lagos State Government has announced that the Adiyan II Water Treatment Plant, designed to produce 70 million gallons of water daily, will be operational by the last quarter of 2027.

This N5 billion project is set to complement the existing Adiyan I plant, which currently supplies 3 million gallons daily, ensuring access to potable water for over 24 million residents of Lagos State.

A Step Forward in Infrastructure Development

During an inspection visit to the project site along Agbado-Oke Aro Road near the Lagos-Ogun State border, Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, expressed satisfaction with the progress made.

“The construction of the Adiyan II Water Treatment Plant is part of our broader strategy to provide pipe-borne water to most households in Lagos.

By integrating Adiyan II with other facilities like Adiyan I, Iju, and Ishasi plants, we are targeting a total output of 100 million gallons daily,” Wahab stated.

He further highlighted that the project timeline has been revised, with the contractor working towards completing the facility by 2027.

The commissioner assured Lagos residents that this initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of sustainable water supply for the state.

Boosting Local Employment
The project manager, Daniele Cifola, revealed that over 110 local workers have been employed, with plans to engage more as construction advances.

He emphasized that the release of funds would help ensure the project’s timely delivery.

Enhancing Water Supply
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) has recently increased water production at its Iju and Adiyan Waterworks.

According to the Managing Director of LSWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, this development underscores the state’s commitment to improving water accessibility.

He urged residents to report any leaks or bursts in the water system to LSWC for immediate action, highlighting that such issues are part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
