Lagos Chapter Takes Steps Toward Unity and Strength for Future Elections
On December 21, 2024, the Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) hosted a significant reconciliatory meeting, aimed at fostering unity within the party in preparation for the upcoming 2027 elections. The gathering, held in the Alausa area of Ikeja, was aptly titled “We Can Be One,” reflecting the party’s resolve to overcome internal differences and strengthen its foundation.
Key party leaders and stakeholders attended the event, including Hon. Mrs. Foluke Osafile, the member representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly; Pastor Funke Awolowo, Head of Directorate and Mobilisation; Chief Sam Okpala, the party’s State Secretary; and Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong, the State Chairman of LP.
The meeting’s central message was one of forgiveness, reconciliation, and unity, with the leaders stressing that these elements are crucial for the party’s success in future elections. Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong, in her address, emphasized the importance of oneness and love within the party, encouraging all members to remain committed and firm despite the challenges they may face. She acknowledged that disagreements are natural in any political organization but underscored that the ability to rise above these differences is what truly matters.
“I am appealing to those who have felt sidelined or aggrieved to embrace peace and togetherness,” Pastor Ekong stated. “Wherever we have wronged you, I take responsibility.”
Hon. Mrs. Osafile also expressed her support for the reconciliation effort, noting that the presence of those who were once seen as aggrieved members was a sign of the sincerity of the meeting. She remarked that it was a genuine effort to bring everyone together, and the atmosphere was one of joy and shared commitment to the party’s vision.
The Labour Party leaders made it clear that while challenges are inevitable, the key to progress lies in the collective effort of every member to prioritize unity and purpose. This meeting marks a pivotal moment for the party as it prepares for the critical 2027 elections.
