Kwara North Criticizes Governor AbdulRazaq’s Plan to Fund Ilorin Emirate Projects

The Kwara North Development Commission (KNDC) has expressed strong disapproval of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s recent announcement to use state funds for projects under the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU).

The Commission believes the move is discriminatory and raises serious concerns about its legality.

Governor AbdulRazaq made the pledge during the IEDPU 59th Annual Conference on December 25, 2024, committing to fund ongoing projects worth over N250 million under the union’s umbrella.

The KNDC, through its President Abdullahi Mansuma and Secretary Hajia Zainabu Seko, is questioning whether state resources, which belong to all residents of Kwara, should be allocated to a group that primarily represents the Ilorin people.

The statement issued by the Commission reads: “It is important to clarify whether this funding is coming from personal sources or from the state’s budget, which should serve the interests of all citizens.”

The Commission argues that the IEDPU, being a sectional group, does not represent the entirety of Kwara State, and therefore, state funds should not be used for their projects.

Further criticism was leveled against the governor’s alleged bias towards his home base, Ilorin Emirate, with the KNDC calling attention to the lack of similar support for other ethnic groups in the state, such as the Patigi Emirate or Offa Descendants Union.

The group warned that it could take legal action to challenge this decision if the governor proceeds with the plan.

Residents and stakeholders are urged to stay informed and get involved in the ongoing discussions around this controversial issue.
