Kwara Cleric’s Shocking Claim: Dismembered Girlfriend Died of Asthma
A shocking case has emerged from Kwara State, where an Islamic cleric, Mohammed Bello, has been arrested for allegedly killing and dismembering the body of his girlfriend, Hafsoh Lawal, whom he met on Facebook.
Bello has denied any foul play, instead claiming that Hafsoh died of asthma.
The 29-year-old suspect made the revelation in an interrogation video, where he stated that he dismembered the body to conceal her death.
Hafsoh, a private school teacher, was reported missing after attending a naming ceremony last Monday. Her family’s search led to Bello, where police discovered the dismembered remains at his residence.
The Unfolding Story of Tragedy
According to Bello, Hafsoh came to his house on the day of her death, feeling hungry. He went out to get her food, only to return and find her gasping for breath.
Bello claimed that Hafsoh had asthma and that she suddenly passed away. Shocked and unsure of what to do, Bello confessed to dismembering her body and disposing of it at a public refuse dump.
“I was in shock when she died. I couldn’t cry out for help. I dismembered her body because I didn’t know what else to do. This is my first time doing this,” Bello explained.
However, Hafsoh’s family has dismissed his claim. A family friend, Lawyer Odedele, who was familiar with the incident, said it was unlikely Hafsoh had asthma, citing her active participation in cooking at the naming ceremony just hours before she met Bello.
“If Hafsoh was truly asthmatic, would she have been cooking at the event? The cleric is just making excuses,” Odedele added.
Investigations Underway
The Kwara State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the matter.
The Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that further details will be shared once the investigation is complete.
This disturbing case has raised several questions about the true cause of Hafsoh’s death and the integrity of the cleric’s story.
NIGPOST will continue to follow this case closely.
