Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Sacks SSG, Chief of Staff, and Five Commissioners in Major Cabinet Reshuffle

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dismissed Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Chief of Staff Shehu Wada Sagagi, and five commissioners. This significant cabinet reshuffle aims to enhance governmental efficiency and effectiveness.

Dr. Bichi, appointed as SSG in May 2023, previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). Shehu Wada Sagagi, also appointed in May 2023, was the former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State.

The five commissioners relieved of their duties include:

1. Baba Halilu Dantiye – Commissioner for Information

2. Muhammad Diggol – Commissioner for Transportation

3. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya – Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning

4. AbdulJabbar Umar – Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning

5. Haruna Isa Dederi – Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice

This development follows recent internal party tensions. In October 2024, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) suspended SSG Dr. Bichi and Commissioner Diggol over allegations of disloyalty and abuse of power. Additionally, Commissioner Kibiya was dismissed in November 2023 for issuing a death threat to tribunal judges.

Governor Yusuf’s decision underscores his commitment to upholding accountability and integrity within his administration. The government is expected to announce new appointments to fill these key positions promptly, ensuring continuity in governance and the effective delivery of services to the people of Kano State.
