Kano Emirate Tussle: State Government Urges Compliance with Appeal Court Ruling

Kano State Government calls for peace as the Appeal Court upholds the governor’s decisions on chieftaincy matters.

Kano Emirate Tussle: Government Asks Parties to Respect Appeal Court Decision

The Kano State Government has appealed to all stakeholders involved in the Kano Emirate dispute to respect the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal and work together to foster peace, unity, and progress in the state.

This plea was made during a press conference on Saturday by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, who described the ruling as a victory for justice and fairness.

Court Ruling Overturns High Court Judgments
According to Dederi, the Court of Appeal has nullified all prior rulings made by the Federal High Court on the emirate chieftaincy matters.

This includes affirming Governor Abba Yusuf’s decisions regarding reforms in Kano’s traditional institutions.

“The judgment validates the government’s lawful actions in chieftaincy appointments and reforms, reinforcing our commitment to justice, fairness, and modernizing traditional structures while preserving Kano’s cultural heritage,” Dederi stated.

Details of the Ruling
The Attorney General highlighted that the law enacted by the Kano State House of Assembly concerning emirates, along with all actions taken by the governor under that law, has been fully upheld by the Court of Appeal.

“All public and private institutions, as well as individuals, are now required to comply with the Court of Appeal’s decision and give full effect to its judgment,” he added.

Call for Unity and Development
Dederi emphasized the state government’s dedication to collaborating with traditional institutions to ensure harmony and development across all emirates.

He further urged all parties to put the collective interest of Kano State above individual concerns.

“Let us prioritize the collective good of Kano State and continue fostering peace and progress,” he concluded, while extending gratitude to the judiciary for upholding justice.
