Kaduna Pastor Freed by Kidnappers, Ransom Bearer Now Held Hostage

In a twist that has left residents of Kaduna in shock, Pastor Samson Ali of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has regained his freedom after being abducted, but the man who delivered his ransom, Yusuf Shehu Ambi, has now been taken hostage.

Pastor Ali, just 30 years old and newly posted to Mararaba Aboro in Sanga Local Government Area, was kidnapped on April 8, 2025. Initially, the kidnappers demanded a staggering N100 million ransom but later settled for an undisclosed amount.

Sources revealed that a coordinated rescue team comprising the Nigerian Army, police, and the DSS was deployed in an attempt to secure the cleric’s release. However, it appears negotiation, rather than force, led to the pastor’s freedom.

The situation took a dramatic turn when the ransom bearer, Ambi, was detained by the kidnappers after delivering the agreed payment. The criminals are now reportedly asking for more money or concessions to let him go.

“The pastor was released, but the man who brought the ransom was held back. They’re now demanding additional payment,” a close source explained.

The incident has ignited outrage online, with many lamenting the worsening security situation in Kaduna State. Some Nigerians have described kidnapping as a booming business and called for urgent action by the government.

As of the time this report was filed, the Kaduna State Police Command had not responded to calls or messages regarding the development. Nonetheless, security agencies are reportedly working behind the scenes to ensure Ambi’s release and track down the criminals responsible.

The ECWA church expressed gratitude for Pastor Ali’s release while urging continued prayers and action for Ambi’s safe return. “We are relieved Pastor Ali is back, but our hearts are still heavy for Yusuf Shehu Ambi,” said a church official.
