Kaduna Dry Port Clears 500 Containers in 3 Months—Set to Handle 1,000 with Functional Railway

In a major boost for Nigeria’s trade and logistics sector, the Kaduna Dry Port has successfully cleared over 500 containers within the past three months.

According to the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), this number could double to 1,000 once the railway system linking the port becomes fully operational.

Kaduna Dry Port Expanding Its Capacity

At the 46th Kaduna International Trade Fair, Buba Danjuma, the Director of the Kaduna Port Office (NSC), highlighted the port’s growing potential.

“Handling over 500 containers in just three months is a major achievement. With a functional railway system, we can process more than 1,000 containers, making trade faster and more efficient,” he said.

A Game-Changer for Businesses and Traders

As a port of origin and destination, the Kaduna Dry Port offers businesses in northern Nigeria an alternative to congested seaports, making imports and exports easier.

To further support trade, the NSC is working on developing more dry ports across the country, ensuring seamless cargo movement for businesses in landlocked areas

“We are committed to reducing congestion at seaports by bringing dry ports closer to businesses,” Danjuma emphasized.

Border Information Centres to Ease Trade

The NSC has also established Border Information Centres at key locations like Idi Iroko, Jibia, and Illela.

These centers provide crucial information to shippers, ensuring a smoother trading experience.

“Many traders struggle with international trade policies. These centers will guide them through the process, making cross-border transactions much easier,” Danjuma explained.

Educating Traders on Trade Opportunities

Many businesses are unaware of the Shippers Council’s role in trade facilitation. To bridge this gap, the NSC is running awareness campaigns to educate traders on how they can benefit from its services.

“We want traders to understand that the Shippers Council is here to help them grow their businesses by simplifying logistics and trade processes,” Danjuma added.

Kaduna Dry Port’s Future with Railway Expansion

The Federal Government is making significant efforts to revive the railway network, which will drastically improve trade logistics.

Once the railway system is fully functional, Kaduna Dry Port will become a major trade hub, enabling businesses to transport goods efficiently.

“The railway expansion will revolutionize trade in Kaduna, making it easier, faster, and more cost-effective to move goods across Nigeria and beyond,” Danjuma said.
