Kaduna APC Unbothered by el-Rufai’s Move to SDP
The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the defection of former governor Malam Nasir el-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stating that his departure will not affect the party’s strength or focus.
El-Rufai recently announced his formal exit from the APC via his verified X handle and Facebook page, citing a disconnect between his personal values and the ruling party’s current direction.
el-Rufai’s Reason for Leaving APC
In his announcement, the former governor reflected on his contributions to the APC’s formation in 2013, expressing disappointment over the party’s current trajectory.
“As a founding member of the APC, I cherished working with compatriots to build this party. However, I no longer find my values aligning with the APC’s direction,” he stated.

Reacting swiftly, Kaduna APC Secretary Alhaji Yahaya Baba-Pate dismissed concerns over el-Rufai’s defection.
He maintained that the party remains focused on securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
“We are unperturbed by former governor Nasir el-Rufai’s defection. Our priority remains delivering Kaduna State for President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027,” Baba-Pate told journalists in Kaduna on Monday.
He further emphasized that the APC in Kaduna is growing stronger, with more influential politicians joining daily.
“The caliber of people joining our party speaks volumes. We are not worried about anyone leaving. The APC’s inclusive governance under Governor Uba Sani keeps attracting new members,” he added.
