In response to escalating violence and deadly cult clashes in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew to restore order and safeguard lives.
The ancient town of Owo was thrown into chaos as rival cult groups clashed in a violent shootout on Monday, leaving four people dead. According to eyewitnesses, the violence began on Sunday and spilled over into Monday morning, resulting in widespread panic and bloodshed.
Among the victims was a 52-year-old former youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fisayo Oladipupo, who was tragically shot by unidentified assailants. Reports also confirmed that a mother and her child were killed by stray bullets during the clash.
Reacting to the tragic events, Governor Aiyedatiwa issued a directive for a curfew in the area. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor ordered all residents of Owo to remain indoors from dawn to dusk until further notice.
“Due to the ongoing violent cult clashes and security disturbances in Owo which have led to the loss of lives, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town, till further notice.
All residents are required to remain indoors during the curfew. Only essential services such as hospitals, emergency services, and law enforcement will be exempted.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has also tasked security agencies to enforce the curfew, apprehend those responsible for the violence, and ensure the safety of lives and property in the community.
The governor’s swift action underscores the urgency of restoring peace and stability to the troubled town, which has been rocked by violent cult activities in recent times.
