Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed confidence that the ongoing political challenges facing Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will ultimately shape him into a formidable political leader.
Jonathan made this statement during the inaugural Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The event also marked the 10th anniversary of Eze Ken O. Nwala’s coronation as Onye Ishi Agwuru III of Ulakwo-Umuselem.
During the ceremony, Governor Fubara received the chieftaincy title “Dike Oha 1 of Etche land,” while Jonathan was honored as “Eze Udo 1 of Etche land.”
Addressing the gathering, Jonathan emphasized the importance of unity and support for Governor Fubara amidst ongoing political tensions, including his fallout with predecessor Nyesom Wike.
Jonathan likened leadership challenges to battles that prepare one for greatness, urging Fubara to remain focused and committed to his governance duties.
He also highlighted the strategic significance of Rivers State to Nigeria’s stability and economy, cautioning against actions that could destabilize the region.
Jonathan called for peace and cooperation, reminding all that political offices are temporary.
Governor Fubara, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to prioritize developmental projects that enhance the lives of Rivers residents.
He thanked Jonathan for his unwavering support during these challenging times.
The event celebrated the cultural heritage of Etche and showcased its agricultural significance as the state’s food basket.
