Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, has stepped in to support traders affected by the devastating fire at the Caring Heart market in Okitipupa, Ondo State, with a generous donation of N10 million.
The tragic fire, which occurred on December 12, wiped out up to 18 shops filled with frozen foods and other goods, causing damages exceeding N50 million. Ibrahim, deeply moved by the situation, visited the site on Thursday with traditional rulers from the district to assess the destruction firsthand.
Speaking to the traders, Ibrahim offered his heartfelt sympathies and expressed that the fire could have been controlled if there had been access to water. As a solution, he promised to drill a solar-powered borehole and install solar-powered lamps to ensure that future incidents like this can be prevented.
“I want to express my sympathy for your losses,” Ibrahim said during his visit. “I was told that with access to water, you could have controlled the fire. To prevent this from happening again, I’ll ensure that a borehole is drilled and that the market is well-lit with solar lamps. I am also donating N10 million to help you restock your businesses.”
In response, Chief Mrs. Florence Irinyemi, the Iyalaje of the market, thanked Ibrahim for his timely visit and generous donation, which has provided much-needed relief to the affected traders.
This act of compassion highlights Ibrahim’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the people in his district, offering both immediate relief and long-term solutions for the future.
