In a bold move to boost food security and support local agriculture, the Jigawa State Government has officially launched its 2025 dry season rice farming initiative. The program, spearheaded by Governor Malam Umar Namadi, includes the distribution of subsidized farm inputs to over 58,000 registered rice farmers across the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Auyo Local Government Area, Governor Namadi emphasized that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader agenda to transform the agricultural sector through modern practices and accessible farming tools.
He noted that the government is not only providing improved rice seeds and fertilizers but also essential resources like solar-powered water pumps, insecticides, and herbicides—all at highly subsidized rates. In addition, tractors have been mobilized to strategic farming communities to ease land preparation and boost productivity.
“This effort is to ensure that every farmer has access to the tools needed to succeed. We are committed to empowering our people, reducing poverty, and enhancing food production in Jigawa,” the governor said.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve yields during the dry season and enhance the livelihood of thousands of rural farmers, while also contributing to Nigeria’s overall food supply.
