President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and expanding opportunities for them in Nigeria.
In his message for International Women’s Day 2025, Tinubu acknowledged the crucial role women play in shaping the nation—from households and farms to leadership and boardrooms.
Commitment to Gender Equality
While celebrating women’s achievements, the president also recognized the challenges they continue to face despite global efforts toward gender equality.
He assured that his Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes breaking down barriers and creating more opportunities for women in governance, finance, and agriculture.
Governors Show Solidarity
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) also expressed solidarity with Nigerian women, commending their resilience in the fight for an inclusive and equitable society.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, who chairs the NGF, emphasized the need for policies that amplify women’s voices and promote their well-being.
Wike Applauds Women’s Contributions
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike also joined in the celebration, recognizing women as the pillars of society.
He praised their contributions to nation-building, assuring them of continued support under his leadership.
“Women will always receive the recognition and respect they deserve under my administration,” Wike stated, emphasizing their importance in family, governance, and economic development.
Call for Women’s Inclusion in Politics
House of Representatives Speaker Hon. Abbas Tajudeen stressed the need to empower women from childhood to ensure their active role in nation-building.
He highlighted ongoing legislative efforts, including proposals for special seats for women in the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly.
Abbas reaffirmed his support for gender inclusion, emphasizing that women are breaking barriers across political, academic, and professional spaces.
He assured that under his leadership, the 10th House of Representatives would continue advocating for women’s empowerment and participation in governance.
As Nigeria joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2025, the call for accelerated action to promote gender equality remains stronger than ever.
