Suspected members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) have launched a devastating attack on a crucial bridge connecting Ngurbuwa and Gonori communities in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to intelligence sources, the militants carried out the bombing around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, using explosive devices to completely destroy what was left of the bridge. This violent act has now cut off access between the two towns, severely impacting movement and daily activities.
A local vigilante officer in Gujba confirmed the incident to NIGPOST, revealing that the attack came shortly after the gunmen stormed Goniri Village. A village head, who spoke under anonymity due to safety concerns, also verified the destruction of the historic bridge — once the oldest link between Ngurbuwa and Goniri.
Residents are now calling for urgent government intervention. Mallam Aliyu, a resident of Ngurbuwa, appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to deploy more security forces to the area, stressing that people in Gujba, Buni Yadi, Goniri, and Katarko live in constant fear.
“The situation is becoming unbearable. Farmers and traders are abandoning their businesses during the day, and we can’t sleep peacefully at night,” Aliyu lamented.
There are also rising fears among locals that other bridges in the area could be targeted next, prompting calls for reinforced security presence to safeguard remaining infrastructure.
