Israeli Airstrikes Kill 13 in Gaza Overnight as Conflict Escalates

Gaza Civil Defence Confirms 13 Dead in Latest Israeli Strikes
Gaza’s civil defence agency has reported that 13 people lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes overnight, with dozens more injured, including women and children.

The attacks targeted Khan Younis and Gaza City, marking a sharp escalation in violence.

According to Mahmud Bassal, the agency’s spokesperson, the strikes began just after midnight and came in response to the breakdown of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

Deadliest Strikes Since Ceasefire Collapse

Tuesday’s bombardment was Israel’s most intense since the January 19 ceasefire ended, with the Hamas-run health ministry confirming over 400 fatalities.

The renewed conflict follows the collapse of diplomatic talks aimed at extending the truce.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue military action, stating that the strikes are “only the beginning.” He warned that any further negotiations with Hamas “will take place only under fire.”

“Hamas has already felt the strength of our arm in the past 24 hours. And I want to promise you – this is only the beginning,” Netanyahu declared in a video statement.

Political Moves Amid the Conflict

In a related development, Netanyahu’s government unanimously reinstated far-right politician Itamar Ben Gvir as national security minister. Ben Gvir had resigned in protest over the previous ceasefire agreement, which his party criticized as a “capitulation to Hamas.”

Israel has reiterated its commitment to securing the release of all hostages taken during Hamas’s October 2023 attack, which initially triggered the war.

Hamas Responds

While Hamas has not launched a military response yet, it has called on allied nations to pressure the United States into halting Israeli airstrikes.

As tensions escalate, the world watches closely. Will diplomatic efforts resume, or is a prolonged conflict inevitable?
