The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has appealed to the Igbo people, both at home and abroad, to return to their hometowns and celebrate the upcoming Christmas holidays with their families. In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group reassured the Ndigbo that their safety would be fully guaranteed during the festive period. According to the statement, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), which was established to safeguard the region, has made adequate security arrangements to ensure that all returnees and residents are protected from any potential threats.
Powerful urged the Igbo community to ignore any fears or rumors of insecurity that may discourage them from coming home for the holidays. He emphasized that the ESN is fully committed to maintaining peace and order, especially during the busy holiday season when many people travel back to their villages to celebrate. The group also reassured the people that the ESN is focused on preventing any disruptions, with a particular emphasis on securing homes, public spaces, and key infrastructure.
IPOB further called on the people of the Southeast to take full advantage of the holiday season to strengthen their unity, reconnect with their roots, and support one another, as this is seen as an important time for fostering togetherness. The group stressed the importance of community solidarity and encouraged the Igbo to remain vigilant while enjoying the festivities, confident that their security needs will be effectively addressed.
This assurance is aimed at easing the minds of many who might have been concerned about the current security situation in parts of the region, as the return of travelers for Christmas is a highly anticipated occasion. IPOB’s statement reflects a desire to create an atmosphere of peace and celebration during the holidays, as well as a hope that it will contribute to the broader goal of achieving lasting peace and stability in the Southeast region.
