IGP Swings Into Action: Counter-Terrorism Squad Deployed to Plateau After Fresh Attacks

Police Boss Sends Tactical Squads, Surveillance Drones to Plateau’s Troubled Communities

Abuja, Nigeria – As deadly violence continues to shake Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has taken swift action by deploying elite counter-terrorism teams, tactical units, and surveillance technology to the most affected areas.

The decision follows the brutal series of attacks that began in Bokkos Local Government Area on March 28, 2025, which have since spread to nearby communities, leaving dozens dead and hundreds displaced.

In an official statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the police boss described the intervention as a vital move to “restore peace, protect residents, and bring perpetrators to justice.”

Top Cop Lands in Plateau

To lead the intervention, the IGP dispatched Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, who has since arrived in Plateau and met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang. DIG Yakubu’s visit was to assess the situation firsthand and deliver the IGP’s condolences to grieving communities.

“This operation is not just about presence; it’s about reclaiming peace and dismantling the terror network,” the IGP emphasized.



What’s Being Deployed?

The police response includes:

Highly trained tactical officers

Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs)

Units of the Police Mobile Force

Drones for real-time aerial surveillance

Helicopters and Special Intervention Squad (SIS) platoons


These assets will be focused on Bokkos and surrounding communities, now seen as epicenters of coordinated attacks.

From Crisis to Long-Term Strategy

Beyond immediate rescue and protection, DIG Yakubu is also engaging with community leaders and the state government to develop long-term strategies that address the root causes of the conflict.

“We are not just reacting — we are planning for a future where Plateau will not be held hostage by bandits,” said a senior police official.


Citizens Urged to Stay Vigilant

The Nigeria Police Force is urging all residents to remain alert and support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information that can help track down those behind the attacks.

“We won’t relent until law and order are fully restored,” IGP Egbetokun assured.
