Police Chief Calls for Technology-Driven Crime Fighting
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate update of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Database to strengthen crime-fighting efforts across the country.
This directive was issued on Monday, March 10, 2025, during the official inauguration of the newly restructured Force Management Team (FMT) at the Police Headquarters.
The move aligns with the Federal Government’s agenda to enhance security and modernize law enforcement strategies.
Restructuring the Police for Better Performance
The IGP’s latest initiative comes after the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), who will oversee key areas of police administration and operations.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the new leadership structure will ensure that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and other investigative units become more specialized and efficient.
“The FMT’s focus will be on reorganization, specialization, and integrating advanced technology into policing,” Adejobi stated.
To achieve this, the IGP has mandated the Department of Research and Planning (R&P) to collaborate with the Force Intelligence Department and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in developing a centralized, technology-driven crime database.
A High-Tech Approach to Law Enforcement
Egbetokun stressed the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies with modern technologies, continuous training, and essential resources to improve investigations and policing strategies.
“Justice must be served with professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights,” the IGP declared.
The newly established Force Management Team is expected to drive collaboration, efficiency, and innovation, ensuring the Nigeria Police Force remains proactive and effective in securing the nation.
