IGP Egbetokun Vows to Surprise Perpetrators of Bassa Massacre in Plateau State

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed that the police will take decisive action against those behind the recent brutal killings in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Over 50 residents were reportedly killed in the early hours of Monday during an attack on Zikke community, with homes burnt and numerous people displaced. This horrific event comes barely two weeks after a similar assault in Bokkos LGA, where several lives were also lost.

During his third official visit to Plateau State on Tuesday, IGP Egbetokun strongly condemned the attack, assuring the public that the perpetrators will be tracked down and dealt with swiftly.

“We understand the gravity of this situation and how it affects farming communities in Plateau. I won’t say too much, but I assure you that these criminals will be shocked—because their time is running out,” he said.

The police chief also urged the people of Bassa and surrounding areas not to link criminal activities to any particular ethnic group.

“Criminals should be seen for what they are—criminals. They don’t have a tribe,” he emphasized.
