The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has exposed a massive case of corruption where government officials reportedly approved full payments multiple times for a hospital project that was never built.
Dr. Musa Aliyu, the ICPC chairman, revealed this alarming discovery, stating that the fraudulent scheme involved paying 100% of the contract sum for the hospital not once, but five times, yet no hospital was constructed.
Funds Wasted, No Project in Sight
An investigative report by NIGPOST confirmed that despite these repeated payments, there is no sign of the hospital or any related work anywhere in the country.
Further findings indicate that the ICPC is actively tracing those responsible and working to recover the misappropriated funds.
Although the commission has not disclosed whether the suspects will face prosecution, sources suggest the primary focus is on retrieving the looted public funds.
A Deep-Rooted Corruption Problem
Speaking at a recent event, Dr. Aliyu emphasized that this hospital scandal is just one of many cases highlighting the deep-seated corruption in Nigeria. He urged citizens and the media to join hands in fighting this menace.
“Imagine a hospital that was fully paid for five times, yet it doesn’t exist. This tells you the extent of corruption we are dealing with.
We can’t continue like this. If we don’t fight corruption, our children will have no future, and the economy will suffer,” Dr. Aliyu warned.
He also acknowledged the challenges of tackling corruption, noting that those involved often resist accountability and try to discredit anti-corruption efforts.
Despite this, he encouraged Nigerians to stand firm and demand accountability.
Call to Action
Corruption remains one of the biggest obstacles to national development. Citizens must remain vigilant, hold public officials accountable, and support agencies like the ICPC in their mission to recover stolen public funds and ensure justice prevails.
