Port Harcourt Welcomes Sole Administrator as He Assumes Duties
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the newly appointed Sole Administrator for Rivers State, has arrived in Port Harcourt to officially take up his role.
Speaking upon arrival, he assured residents that “Port Harcourt is my city. Everything appears calm.”
Ibas landed at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at approximately 11:25 AM on Thursday.
His arrival was met with a warm reception from top state officials and security personnel, who honored him with a ceremonial guard of honor.
Security Meeting at Government House
Accompanied by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Zone 16), Ibas proceeded straight to Government House.
After a brief tour, he met with key government officials and service chiefs at the Executive Council Chamber.
During his address, Ibas expressed appreciation for the efforts of security agencies and government officials in maintaining stability. “I want to thank you all for what you have been doing so far.
I’ve met with the Head of Service and service commanders for a formal briefing, and I will provide further updates later this evening,” he stated.
A Calm Port Harcourt and Plans Ahead
When asked about his first impressions upon arrival, the retired Vice Admiral, dressed in an all-white native attire, reiterated his commitment to ensuring peace and progress in the state.
“Port Harcourt is my city. Everything appears calm. We just want Port Harcourt to get to where it has always been,” he said.
As Rivers State navigates a critical political and security phase, Ibas’ arrival signals a fresh wave of leadership aimed at maintaining stability and governance.
