The launch of former Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s autobiography, A Journey in Service, was a momentous occasion, drawing an elite gathering of political and business leaders from across Nigeria and beyond.

Held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, the event was filled with nostalgic reflections, powerful speeches, and generous financial contributions to the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida Library Project.

High-Profile Attendees and International Presence

Leading the list of dignitaries was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.

Other prominent figures included:

• Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
• Former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, and Yemi Osinbajo.
• 2023 Presidential Candidates Peter Obi (Labour Party) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP).
• Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo (who delivered the keynote address).
• Former Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Wonie Bio.

Massive Donations to Support IBB’s Library Project

The event also served as a fundraiser for the IBB Library Project, attracting multi-billion naira contributions from Nigeria’s wealthiest individuals:

• Aliko Dangote pledged ₦8 billion over four years.
• Abdul Samad Rabiu (BUA Group Chairman) donated ₦5 billion.
• General Theophilus Danjuma contributed ₦3 billion.
• Chief Arthur Eze donated ₦500 million.
• Tony Elumelu and Bola Shagaya also pledged undisclosed amounts.

Additional contributions included:

• Senator Sani Musa – ₦250 million
• Mustapha Chike-Obi (Fidelity Bank) – ₦50 million
• Mustapha Chike-Obi (Personal) – ₦100 million
• Senate President Godswill Akpabio – ₦50 million
• Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin – ₦20 million
• Nigeria Governors’ Forum (collective pledge to be revealed in March).

Celebrating Babangida’s Legacy

Throughout the event, speakers paid glowing tributes to Babangida’s contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic history.

President Tinubu praised Babangida for his “unparalleled contributions to national unity and economic growth,” while Goodluck Jonathan described the book as “a vital historical document for future generations.”
