A Shocking Attempt to Sell a 4-Year-Old for ₦2.7 Million in Imo – Two Women Arrested
In a heartbreaking child trafficking case, the Imo State Police have arrested two women, Joy Ugwu and Rosella Michael, who attempted to sell a 4-year-old boy, Jaffa Umar, for ₦2.7 million.
The suspects, one from Kogi State and the other from Abuja, were caught in a covert operation by the police’s Scorpion Unit on April 14, 2025, in Owerri, Imo State.
The young boy had been abducted in Abuja, where he had been hawking vegetables, and transported to Imo State by the suspects. The plan was to sell him for a large sum of money. But thanks to swift police action, the boy was rescued before the transaction could take place.
Unfortunately, a third accomplice, believed to be a nurse, is still on the run. After the successful rescue, the child was safely reunited with his family. The suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further investigation and prosecution in Abuja.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassured the public of the police’s commitment to fighting child trafficking and ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals in the region.
