Dele Farotimi, a prominent Nigerian human rights lawyer and activist, has been granted bail by the Ekiti State High Court. The bail, set at ₦30 million, comes after his arrest on December 3, 2024, in Lagos State, followed by his transfer to Ekiti. His arrest stemmed from allegations of defamation tied to his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System. The defamation claims were filed by renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Afe Babalola, who alleged that Farotimi’s book contained damaging statements about him and others in the judiciary.
