Honoring Fallen Heroes: GOC Saraso’s Call for Courage in the Fight Against Terrorism

Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigeria Army, has urged officers and soldiers to honor the sacrifices of fallen heroes who gave their lives to combat insurgency and terrorism.

Saraso, who also serves as the Commander of Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma, made this call during the inauguration of projects at the 2 Battalion headquarters in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, on Wednesday.

Projects unveiled included a newly constructed 2 Battalion Quarter-Guard and accommodation, a Cenotaph, and Mascot accommodation for the battalion.

The GOC emphasized that the bravery and selflessness of these fallen heroes should inspire serving personnel to work tirelessly to justify their ultimate sacrifices.

“This initiative reflects the enduring legacy of the Commanding Officer of the 2 Battalion, ensuring the memory of our gallant soldiers remains alive,” Saraso stated.

He further explained that the cenotaph, engraved with the names and images of soldiers who lost their lives from 2015 to date, serves as a powerful reminder of their courage and dedication to restoring peace.

Saraso expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defense Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and Kaduna State leadership for their unwavering support. He highlighted the achievements recorded by the division, particularly from 2024, attributing these successes to collaborative efforts.

He reaffirmed the division’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the Northwest and across Nigeria, stating, “By God’s grace, we aim to bring an end to this menace in 2025.”

To mark Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Saraso also presented cash donations and gifts to the widows of fallen soldiers, reaffirming the military’s dedication to supporting the families of its heroes.
