Nigerian Forces Foil Terrorist Courier, Prevent Devastating Attack
In a remarkable display of courage and vigilance, troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Sector 3 Monguno, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have successfully thwarted a potential bomb attack in Borno State. The operation, carried out on Thursday, January 2, 2025, led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist courier, Murktar Alhaji Chari, aged 28.
Chari was intercepted at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area while transporting materials believed to be used for crafting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). According to Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at MNJTF Headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, the suspect admitted the materials were destined for Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area.
Seized Materials Prevent Disaster
During the operation, security forces recovered critical items, including:
Four empty 12kg gas cylinders
One empty 6kg gas cylinder
Two carburetor gas canisters
Two pressure regulators
A hose
Intelligence reports revealed that these materials were part of a planned retaliatory attack by insurgents who had recently suffered heavy losses, including the deaths of key members and the seizure of a significant weapons cache.
Lieutenant Colonel Osoba commended the troops’ timely action, noting, “This interception has not only disrupted a dangerous plot but also delivered a severe blow to the operational capabilities of the terrorist group.”
Commendation for Security Efforts
Major General Ibrahim Ali, the Force Commander of MNJTF, praised the troops and CJTF for their dedication and professionalism. He reaffirmed the MNJTF’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring peace and security in the region.
The suspect is currently in custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
