The Palestinian militant group Hamas has issued a chilling warning, stating that any attempt by Israel to forcibly rescue hostages could result in their deaths.
This comes as Israel intensifies its airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza, reigniting violent clashes in the region.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas claimed that it is doing everything possible to keep Israeli captives alive but accused Israel’s military campaign of putting their lives at risk.
“Every time the occupation attempts to retrieve its captives by force, it ends up bringing them back in coffins,” the group stated, suggesting dire consequences if Israel continues its military offensives.
Rising Casualties in the Ongoing Conflict
Tensions have escalated dramatically since Israel resumed its airstrikes across Gaza last week, breaking a fragile ceasefire that had been in place since January.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 830 Palestinians have been killed since the latest wave of attacks began.
The conflict originally erupted after Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,218 people, most of them civilians.
In response, Israel launched a full-scale military operation, which has since claimed the lives of over 50,183 people in Gaza, according to official reports from the Hamas-run health ministry.
A Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds
With no clear end in sight, civilians on both sides continue to suffer, with thousands displaced, infrastructure destroyed, and international calls for de-escalation growing louder.
