Gunmen Invade Lagos Community, Kill Two, Injure Many

Two people have been killed, and several others injured after gunmen attacked Ijegun Egba, a community in Ori Ade Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.

The assailants reportedly launched their attack on Monday and Tuesday, crossing over from a neighboring riverine village amid an ongoing dispute.

Victims and Rising Tension

The deceased have been identified as:

Gbenga Areagbo (40), a sickle cell patient

Oladapo Olukoya, whose body was taken away by the attackers through the jetty to Ibasa

A shocking video viewed by our correspondent showed one of the victims lying lifeless with severe head injuries.

Unfolding Violence and Criminal Activities

While the exact reason behind the invasion is unclear, residents claim the violence is linked to land disputes, cultism, pipeline vandalism, and illegal extortion by thugs.

A community member, Kudus Fadiku, alleged that the attackers were from Ibasa and had been harassing locals since Thursday.

“They attacked Wasiu Ademola, a local, and tried to take him to Ibasa through the river. But when he lied that he was a policeman, they let him go,” he recounted.

Another resident, Kazeem, reported the case to Satellite Town Police Station last Thursday but was allegedly dismissed, with officers claiming the town was peaceful.

Eyewitness Reports of the Attack

A local witness described how the attackers stormed the jetty on Monday, heavily armed, and shot Oladapo Adekoya before mutilating his body with cutlasses and axes.

“They came in about three vehicles and several motorcycles, carrying guns and machetes.

They asked Gbenga if he was Lateef, and when he denied it, they shot him at close range and attacked him with axes,” said a community leader, Saeed Ayinde.

Despite reports to the Area E Police Command in FESTAC, no arrests have been made.

Residents are urging security forces to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace to the area.
