Gunmen Attack Kaduna Community on New Year’s Day, Leaving Destruction Behind

On New Year’s Day, gunmen launched an attack on Unguwar Rogo, a community in the Ugom area of Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State, causing widespread damage. The attack has left residents shaken and fearing for their safety, as this is not the first time the area has been targeted by armed assailants.

Zamani Ishaku, a local resident, confirmed the incident, expressing deep concern over the ongoing threat of violence in the region. According to a statement from Ishaya Onussim, Chairman of the Ugom Progressive Union, the attackers wreaked havoc by vandalizing homes, stealing farm produce, and setting fire to six houses. In an especially troubling act, they set the ECWA Church in Unguwar Rogo ablaze after looting valuables from both the church and the pastor’s residence.

In a desperate attempt to save their lives, the community members fled into the nearby bush, leaving behind their belongings. Onussim condemned the attack, highlighting the fear and devastation it has caused.

Efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
