In a disturbing turn of events, gunmen on Saturday kidnapped seven passengers traveling from Abuja to Kwara State. The incident occurred along the Obbo-Ayegunle road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara, causing panic among locals and commuters.
The victims were in a Sienna vehicle owned by Olumoh Express, en route to Offa from Abuja, when the attackers—believed to be about eight in number—ambushed them between 5 and 6 p.m.
Eyewitness accounts and reports reaching NIGPOST revealed that the kidnappers later released three children who were among the passengers. The children, aged between two and twelve, were rescued during a bush combing operation by the police and local vigilantes.
According to SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, the vehicle was retrieved and moved to the nearest police station. One of the rescued children provided information that helped trace and reunite the trio with their family members.
Efforts to rescue the remaining victims are ongoing. The state police, led by Commissioner Adekimi Ojo, have intensified operations, combining intelligence gathering with a thorough search of the surrounding forests.
The Commissioner assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to the safety of residents and urged anyone with useful information to contact the police through official channels.
This latest abduction adds to the growing concern over security in the state, as residents continue to call for more proactive measures to tackle banditry and kidnapping.
